The Paris Olympics were an amazing spectacle. From a memorable opening ceremony (Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Boat Parade) to the closing spectacle of a movie star and gymnast Simone Biles sending the Olympic flag to 2028 host Los Angeles.
Snoop Dog was everywhere!
The US Men’s basketball “Avengers” team overcame tough challenges from Serbia and France.
The US Women’s basketball team achieved their 8th straight gold.
Katy Ledecky won her 8th Gold medal.
Surprises in the track and field, pool and dance floor that gave the whole world cheers, awe, and reasons to share posts, memes, and pictures on social media.
Even the Seine was cleaned up enough to host a triathalon.
And there is worldwide joy and relief that breakdancing won’t be returning as a sport at the next Olympics.
Among the few hiccups were related to the eco-friendly cardboard beds the athletes stayed on in the Olympic Village and the food choices.
There’s a wider problem stemming from Paris and beds though- namely bed bugs. Last year, Paris attracted world wide attention and concern from a bed bug outbreak. What’s more, shared accommodations where people come and go often — such as hotels, hostels, apartments and even the Olympic Village — are risk factor for the spread of bedbugs. Bedbug infestations have been linked to the travel and hospitality industries for decades. In our experience, the issue of bed bugs didn’t go away, they just got subsumed by bigger problems in Paris (an effort to address rats ) and worldwide headlines (war, elections, hurricanes, stock market swoon, Deadpool and Wolverine.)
We encourage Paris visitors to take precautions when you get home. South Korea did for all flights from Paris and put bed bug sniffing dogs at its airport.
