Five Prevention Tips to Avoid Beg Bugs During Peak Season
FAIRFIELD, NJ – August 6, 2014 – Bell Environmental Services, a leader in pesticide-free bed bug detection and control, reminds consumers that the summer months are the peak season for bed bug infestations. To help people keep these insects out of their homes, Bell Environmental has initiated an awareness campaign that includes prevention tips and a contest to educate consumers.
Hot temperatures and increased humidity provide ideal living conditions for bed bugs and allow them to multiply, mature and spread faster. In addition, travel season raises the risk of people coming in contact with bed bugs at hotels or on planes, trains, and buses and carrying them home. Despite decreased attention to this epidemic, bed bug infestations continue to be prevalent and widespread.
“Bell Environmental is pleased to help educate people on the best ways to prevent, detect, and resolve bed bug issues. The key is to maintain vigilance against these hitchhiking insects from entering your home and workplace, especially during the summer when bed bugs are more active,” said Glenn Waldorf, director of Bell Environmental Services. “If you do encounter a problem with these adaptable and persistent insects, it’s best to act as soon as you detect it by calling a skilled professional. Bed bugs do not go away on their own and home remedies are typically ineffective, can make problems worse, and are sometimes dangerous.”
To help prevent a bed bug infestation this season Bell Environmental Services offers five key tips.
- When returning from vacation or anywhere suspect, don’t drop your bags on your bed and unpack. Inspect and vacuum your luggage for hitchhiking insects. Place your clothing in sealed plastic bags. Then place the clothing in the dryer or send it to the dry cleaner, and throw out the plastic bags.
- Store your personal goods (backpack, purse, laptop bag, etc.) in enclosed bins.
- Eliminate clutter from your home. Bed bugs love to hide in clutter.
- Don’t buy or pick up used furniture.
- Share your prevention efforts with neighbors, friends and co-workers to help spread awareness so their infestation doesn’t become your infestation.
To take the itch out of bed bug season and as part of its ongoing education efforts, Bell Environmental Services is hosting a contest to find the next stars of its popular “Where’s Roscoe?” commercials. These ads highlight real people and Bell’s canine detection beagle Roscoe the Bed Bug Dog®, who finds bed bugs in homes and offices. From now through September 5th, Bell Environmental Services invites you to submit a video of your best “Where’s Roscoe?” skit for the chance to be featured in an upcoming commercial and win a GoPro camera. For contest details and to enter, please visit www.facebook.com/wheresroscoe.
Bell Environmental will share more bed bug prevention, detection, and treatment advice throughout the summer and as the campaign continues.
