Bell Environmental Partners With Senior Home Care Services On Bed Bug Seminar

Blood Suckers A Major Concern for Nursing Homes, Senior Centers and Assisted Living Facilities

FAIRFIELD, N.J., May 24, 2012 – Bell Environmental Services, a leading bed bug remediation company in the greater New York metropolitan area, will co-host a bed bug seminar with Senior Home Care Services, a top provider of health aides to the elderly, on Wednesday, June 13.

The seminar, developed for facility managers and healthcare executives at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, and other healthcare facilities catering to the elderly, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., at Bell Environmental Services’ office, in Fairfield, N.J. The event is free; pre-registration is recommended. Bell is located at 155 Route 46 West, in Fairfield.

Bell Environmental has hosted similar educational seminars for health care professionals, as well as for first responders, and local and county government officials throughout New Jersey.

The seminar, entitled “Bed Bugs: Realities and Remedies,” will provide health care executives and facilities managers the information they need to identify bed bug issues, to help prevent the spread of bed bugs, and to understand the range of solutions available to them.

The elderly, particularly those whose health may be waning, often have more difficulty noticing the signs of bed bugs. Nursing homes and other living facilities provide what is an ideal environment for bed bugs to thrive. Aside from residents, visitors and staff at these facilities run risks of bringing bed bugs home with them. Bed bugs, which are wingless, are notorious hitchhikers and spread by crawling into personal baggage, jackets, and more.

“When it comes to bed bugs, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” said George Koenig, president of Senior Home Care Services. “All health care employees – everyone from the owner to the medical staff – should be prepared to identify and act on issues to avoid the problems that stem from major infestations.”

Bell Environmental Services works with a number of healthcare facilities, including nursing homes and hospitals, to provide proactive inspections to prevent infestations, and non-toxic treatments that solve problems and keep rooms open for patient care and billing. Bed bugs have been reported in a number of senior facilities throughout the New York metropolitan area over the last year.

Peter DiEduardo of Bell Environmental, who will be presenting at the seminar, will discuss where bed bugs typically hide, how they migrate, how quickly they reproduce, steps to take to help prevent being victimized by bed bugs, and how bed bugs are not just an urban issue.
