As we said in our October 18 Posting “Avoid Bed Bugs By Avoiding Used Furniture” – New Yorkers are right to avoid couches left on the street! While this may be a nice couch, there’s a reason it’s abandoned and therefore untouchable except by sanitation workers.
Used couches may be home to a bed bug infestation
In fact, we know people who understandly cross the street as soon as they approach a mattress left on the curb.
We think Craig’s List is great – but think twice before buying used furniture that could have bed bugs. Even when the advertised items say they’re safe, can you be sure?
• “From a pet free, bed bug free and smoke free home.”
• “I have a FREE TWIN BED and BOX SPRING from IKEA for the taking! It is bed bug free!!!!”
• “Item/s from family that is smoke, pet, and bed bug FREE!!!! Had to mention because now-a-days, that is VERY important to know.”
• All for sale were used in a clean bug free environment
If you really love the furniture and want to risk buying it, then schedule Roscoe the Bed Bug Dog to inspect that sofa at the time of pick up. If not, then it’s better to buy something new, or from a used furniture store that fumigates its products before sale.
